Join Us

Thank you for your interest in joining the Orlean Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. We are looking for energetic volunteers of all ages to provide emergency fire and medical services for our community. We have the following categories of membership:

Regular Member

Any citizen of the greater Orlean area at least 18 years old who is willing to assist in the performance of the department is welcome to join. These members provide administrative and logistical support to the department to include fundraising activities, special projects, community liaison, and other support activities.

Emergency Responder

Any member who satisfies applicable training requirements, health regulations, and other performance requirements are eligible to participate in emergency response actions. Typically, service as a volunteer firefighter requires completion of the Firefighter I course, which consists of approximately 100 hours of training. For additional information about becoming a firefighter, see the requirements typical for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Members who wish to serve as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) are required to complete approximately 120 hours of training. For general information about becoming an EMT, see the requirements in the Commonwealth of Virginia. All training is offered during evening hours and weekends to accommodate work schedules. The cost of the training is paid by the department.

Junior Member

Individuals who are 16 and 17 years old and have the consent of their parent or guardian are welcome to become members of the department. Junior members are eligible to participate in training exercises and serve as emergency responders but are limited in the duties they are permitted to execute on the scene.

How to Get More Information

If you feel you can make a contribution to your community by serving in one of these capacities, stop by the fire station on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM to meet your neighbors during our regular business meeting. Additional information on the application process will be provided at that time.

If you are unable to attend a meeting but are still interested in becoming a member, please Contact our Membership Committee for additional information and guidance.

Thank you for your interest, from your neighbors at OVFRD.
